The October 14, 2008 meeting of the Delhi Township Veterans Association was called to order by
Commander Osterfeld at 7:30 p.m.

  Commander Osterfeld welcomed all present and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
   
  The roll call of the officers was held and a quorum was established.  

  There were 24 members present.

  There was a motion for the Journal of the minutes for September to be approved.  The motion was 2nd
and passed. The Journal was filed.
  There were no bills that were announced and passed.
  The treasurer’s report was read, approved and filed for audit.   

Announcements:
       Former Trustee John King has had a heart attack and had a by pass. He is back home and doing
well. Secretary Lefler sent a get well card on behalf of the DTVA.
       Vice Commander Armstrong went on the WWII flight to Washington D.C. for a day and told of his
experience.

Old Business:
a.        Split the Pot – Gary Cox sold the most tickets. The winner Bob Marchoni gave back $100 as a
donation to the DTVA.
b.        Donations of Socks and clothing. Mike Bender is accepting socks for the Homeless veterans for
Joseph House. They council and help find jobs for the Homeless Veterans. Please bring clothing or white
socks for Christmas.
    c.  December 6 – Delhi Christmas Parade (usually starts around 9am)   Commander will get try to get
specific information on the parade. We will participate.
    d. December 9 – Christmas Party – at regular meeting.  Spouses are welcome.  More information to
follow.
     e. Proud to be Veteran T-Shirts from American Legion Magazine.  The T-shirts came in and were
distributed after the meeting.  
     f. Benches. Secretary talked to Sandy Monahan about getting benches in the park. He was given
brochures. Also the idea of having the Boy Scouts build the benches as a project was being investigated.
     g. December 7 – American Legion Pearl Harbor remembrance.  Doors open at 9am (coffee and
donuts).  Ceremony at Anderson Ferry.  Color Guards, reef laying.  After ceremony, there will be a lunch
at the Legion.  Everyone is welcome.  Mike Bender is POC.
     h. Veterans’ Day Ceremony. Sunday, Noon, November 9, 2008. Wear medals. Col. Dean Smittle was
asked to be Guest Speaker.
    i.   Legion post was having a Halloween dance for $10 from 8-12 on Halloween. Prize for best costume.

New Business.

a.        Oak Hills teacher Tim Taylor is having veterans’ day services at the school on Friday November 7.
Anyone interested in attending should contact Tim Taylor.
b.        Standing Resolution 2008-002 was read for the first time and is now standing. This resolution
defines the purpose of our organization so that we meet the requirements by the Army to get our
ceremonial rifles.
c.        Delhi Business Association is having a Valentine’s Dance. We should try to get a group together
and support this dance.
d.        Our fundraising dance is tentatively set for March 14th Saturday—St. Patrick’s Dance. Trustee Cox
said he could get a DJ. A motion to set up a committee was motioned and approved. Trustees Cox and
Bender were placed on the committee. A request for a non-officer volunteer for the committee was not
answered.
e.        Vice Commander passed on his way___________ and saw a cannon. Wanted to know if we should
try to obtain.
f.        Received a check for $1200 from the American Legion Charity Fund. Secretary sent a “Thank You”
note.


Motion was made and 2nd and passed to adjourn.
