The September 9, 2008 meeting of the Delhi Township Veterans Association was called to order by
Commander Osterfeld at 7:30 p.m.
Commander Osterfeld welcomed all present and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Opening prayer was said by Chaplain, Al Duebers.
The roll call of the officers was held and a quorum was established. Secretary Lefler and Treasurer
Burke were absent.
There were 26 members present.
Two new members joined, Harry Gardner – Navy, and Bob Henninger – Army
There was a motion for the Journal of the minutes for August to be approved. The motion was 2nd and
passed.
There were no bills that were announced and passed.
The treasurer’s report was read, approved and filed for audit.
The secretary’s report as read, approved and filed.
Communications: Gary reported info on Honor Flight for WWII vets. He had pamphlets and applications
Old Business:
a. Split the Pot – Of 71 members who received tickets, 52 members returned them. Total of $1,131
collected. Cost of printing tickets was $122, which left $1,009. Winner gets $505 and association gets
$504. Thanks again to Mike Bender for setting this all up. After that, winner was drawn - Bob Marchoni
won.
b. Display event at Bailey Place went very well. 40 residents present – passed out new brochure. Don
gave speech on displays. Henry spoke about WWII – then opened up for discussions. Denise reported
positive feedback from residents.
c. Krogers – successful – total amount donated, from 3 separate weekends, $1985. Thanks to
everyone who helped. Thanks for the Grill Masters, Gary & Jerry
d. Wall V was put in (and is now full). Lenny, Henry, and Don were all there, at some point. Don checked
spelling, and location of some names (looks good).
We have about 47 spaces left for wall IV.
e. Price on new walls (half walls) are $5,300 for blank wall. Each wall can hold 200 names. We are
looking at a ball park figure of 10K per new wall. We need support to help raise money. Wanted to have a
dinner/dance on February 14, but found out the Delhi Business Association, is holding one the same night
– at the Farm. Don suggests that we try to support that event, with as many members/guests as possible.
May try to have a dinner/dance on St. Patricks Day.
New Business
f. Important Upcoming Dates:
(1) November 9 at Noon – Small Dedication Program (about 45 minutes) at Memorial.
(2) December 6 – Delhi Christmas Parade (usually starts around 9am) Henry is going to try and get some
Golf Carts, from Western Hills Country Club, for those who can’t walk.
(3) December 7 – American Legion Pearl Harbor remembrance. Doors open at 9am (coffee and donuts).
Ceremony at Anderson Ferry. Color Guards, reef laying. After ceremony, there will be a lunch at the
Legion. Everyone is welcome. Mike Bender is POC.
(3) December 9 – Christmas Party – at regular meeting. Spouses are welcome. More information to follow.
g. Proud to be Veteran T-Shirts from American Legion Magazine. Don has order information and
passed around sheet at meeting. They are $7.95 each. If we order at least 12 shirts, they will personalize
(with our Association Name) for free. Deadline to order is 9/25.
h. Held regular monthly spit the pot. $47 profit.
i. Don wanted to thank several people for all they do to help association: To name a few:
(1) Al Dubers and all the Delhi Township Trustees.
a. Joe Jones, and son for sandblasting the gun.
b. Don Gutterman – for helping keep the walls and gun clean
c. The people of Delhi Township for all support, events, Krogers.:
j. Dues for new year are now being collected. Please pay. Remind people you know who are not here.
k. Mike Bender talked about Legion Post and two organizations they support, in December, with
donations:
(1) Joseph House – Homeless Vets. Donate clothing and new white socks to help them stay warm for
winter.
(2) Fisher House – Helps families of hospital patients. Donate items such as hand goods, toiletries,
laundry detergent.
If you would like to help donate, bring items to meeting for Mike to deliver to Legion. and Mike will get them .
Motion was made and 2nd and passed to adjourn.
